Indianapolis, IN – 30 Aug 2010: Garrett Gerloff completed the hat trick at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, winning Sunday’s Rev’It Moriwaki MD250H Powered by Honda race as well as taking the win on Saturday and qualifying on pole in Friday’s qualifying session. Gerloff got off to a strong start to take the lead into the first turn and continued to pull away during the race. As in Saturday’s race, a battle for second place developed immediately between Nick McFadden, Jake Lewis, Ryan Matter and Stefano Mesa.

“I definitely got a better start today,” said Gerloff. “I led into turn one and really tried to put my head down and run away. Jake and Nick stayed with me the first couple of laps. I was getting kind of nervous, but I started to pull away little by little and I was monitoring the gap on my pit board.” Gerloff continued to run faster laps than the group fighting over second, and his margin of victory was 11.33 seconds at the end of the 11 lap race.

McFadden dropped back early in the race after a poor start. “I got off to a worse start than I did yesterday, and I just dropped back the first three laps,” said McFadden. “After that, I got in a rhythm, put my head down and caught back up to these guys.” Ryan Matter was the young man on the move, drafting past both McFadden and Lewis, who had held down second for the first seven laps. McFadden was shuffled back to fourth, but not for long. “I sat there for a couple of laps, then made a move,” said McFadden. “With two laps to go, I figured it was getting to the end of the race and I needed to get up there. I made a pass into turn one and held them both off until the end.”

Lewis was shuffled from second back to fourth place with four laps to go. “Yeah, Ryan and Nick flew past me on the front straight and I didn’t know that Ryan was up there too,” Lewis said. “I put my head down to get back past those two because Garrett was already way out there. I was able to get around Ryan, but I couldn’t get past Nick at the line.” The difference at the finish between the three riders was a mere .228 seconds.

Stefano Mesa faded to fifth, then was caught and passed on the last lap by Ben Young. Nick Hansen, Grayson Gerloff and Joe Roberts rounded out the top nine positions. As on Saturday, there was a six-rider race-long battle over tenth place that ended with Kaleb De Keyrel over Max Flinders, Andre Ochs, Tyler Linders, Lex Hartl and Brandon Altmeyer.

USGRPU Press Release:
Gerloff takes convincing win over Lewis and McFadden in first Rev’It Moriwaki MD250H Powered by Honda race at Indianapolis

Indianapolis, IN – 28 Aug 2010: Garrett Gerloff took the lead on the second lap and never looked back, taking a convincing win in the Rev’It Moriwaki MD250H Powered by Honda race on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the 2010 Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. Starting from pole, Gerloff was beat to turn one by Jake Lewis with Peter Lenz in pursuit. Gerloff went past Lenz and set out after Lewis, who led the first lap. Gerloff went past on lap two and immediately pulled out a lead that grew each lap.

“I was a little worried,” said Gerloff. “Peter got around me after I ran off the track a little bit. I passed Peter and caught back up to Jake, just trying to keep focused. I tried to pull away and not have as much pressure at the end if he was right behind me.”

Jake Lewis tried valiantly to hang with Gerloff, going half a second faster than he had qualified, but to no avail. “I was trying to hang on and pushing it to the limit, but he was just going really good today,” said Lewis. “Halfway through the race I looked back and saw Nick and Peter right there, and I was like ‘Gosh, I didn’t know they were still there!’, so I started pushing even harder. Towards the end of the race, my foot started slipping off the peg and I made some silly mistakes and they caught right up. Nick passed me after the finish, it was close but that was good.”

Nick McFadden was able to go with the lead group at the start, and passed Lenz on lap four. Lenz latched on and pushed McFadden to the end, both riders turning their fastest laps on the last lap as they saw they were closing on Lewis. “I was just trying to catch up after getting a bad start,” McFadden said. “Stefano Mesa passed me going off the back straightaway, and I got separated from him and Peter a pretty good ways. I just put my head down and tried to catch up. After I caught Stefano and got past Peter, I could see we were reeling in Jake. About halfway through the race, Peter showed me a wheel and I just outbroke him and kept my head down.”

Stefano Mesa held on to finish fifth, four seconds ahead of Ryan Matter, who finished four seconds ahead of Joe Roberts in seventh place. Grayson Gerloff won a race-long battle over eighth place ahead of Nick Hansen, Ben Young, Andre Ochs and Austin Medrano, with the five riders nose-to-tail throughout the race.

Indianapolis, IN – 27 Aug 2010:

Garrett Gerloff came out on top after two rounds of qualifying on a sunny afternoon at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. The Alabama rider set a blistering lap of 1:57.513 in the middle of the second session to take pole position by two seconds over Jake Lewis, who was not able to better his 1:59.611 time from the first session. Nick McFadden was the only other Moriwaki MD250H rider to drop into the sub-two-minute lap time with a 1:59.879. Peter Lenz will fill out the front row with a time of 2:00.350.

Joe Roberts leads row two, with Ben Young, Stefano Mesa, Ryan Matter, Austin Medrano and Andre Ochs on the same second. The two races prove to be very entertaining as successful drafting and passing on the challenging Indianapolis Motor Speedway course will be the order of the day.

Race City Motorsport Park
Calgary, AB

Finished:2nd, 7th,5th

When I first got my Honda CBR125 I was very happy to have an opportunity to race on big tracks and to be part of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship. My first ride on big track was great experience. When I got on the podium after my first race it was just amazing to be there. I had lot of fun racing Honda CBR 125 on the Varsity Speed park mini track. I enjoyed riding mini motorcycles with Cody and Loic.

Mosport International Raceway
Mosport, ON

Finished:2nd,5th

I liked Mosport big track it is a very fast and fun track. I liked that Mosport had lot’s of elevation changes. I had so much fun on the mini track there. I was very happy to be on the podium again. Ryan Appenrodt and me had a great battle for the second place. Mosport mini track was my favorite track that I ever ridden on. I really liked racing with Dave Stokovski and Cody Matechuk during AMRA demonstration rides.

Atlantic Motorsport Park
Shubenacadie, NS

Finished:10th, 9th

I liked Shubie a lot. It is very challenging track with lot of elevation changes and tricky corners. It requires lots of concentration and hard work. It would have been better if I did not miss the two practices on Thursday. I did not get enough track time which affected my qualifying and overall results. I am glad that my dad managed to fit this event into his busy work schedule. I wished that Shubie had a mini track we could of raced on. I really liked going to the swimming pool with Cody and Loic after races.

It was great season and I was very happy to be part of the CBR125R Challenge. I am looking forward to race my HONDA CBR 125 next year.

I would like to thank: Honda Canada (Warren, Kim and Eric), Parts Canada, Pirelli, Power House Meidl Honda Saskatoon, Devin and Bodhi Edie,Emil Peev, John Lenz, Lyle Drysdale, Jay Fox, Berna and Erin, Ed Sorbo, Ian McWhriter,Geoff and Sheldon Gerbrandt, Appenrodt’s,SMRA, AMRA and my family.

Portland, OR – 22 Aug 2010: OMRRA hosted the final west coast round of USGPRU racing at Portland International Raceway this past weekend. In typical northwestern fashion, the weather fluctuated not only minute-by-minute, but corner-to-corner as well.

Andrew Artola won his first Pilot 125GP race this weekend. He battled for a few laps with Michael Caravatta, who snagged the holeshot. But Caravatta crashed a few laps into the race, handing the lead to Artola. Jerry Signorelli recovered from a bad start and worked his way up to second place on his Racing for a Wish Moriwaki sponsored by Bob Fier Racing. Shellie Matthews and Kevin Murray finished fourth and fifth respectively. Dave Matthews was in third place when his Honda suffered a mechanical entering the front straight with three laps to go.

In the Moto Liberty / RS-Taichi 250GP race, Dave Matthews won the battle of attrition despite the element’s and gravity’s best efforts to throw all of the riders to the ground. Vince Rolleri took off to a strong lead early on, leading the first two laps, until he crashed out unceremoniously. Canadian, Ben Young, took his turn in the lead with Mike Aboyoun right behind. Young was given a stop-and-go penalty for weaving, but rejoined and charged his way back into second place a few laps later. Halfway through the race, the skies opened up, and the rain started falling in some but not all of the corners. Aboyoun crashed in turn 9 on lap 10, elevating Young back into the lead and Matthews into second place. With half a lap to go, Young crashed on the long curved back straight while in the lead, which caused a red flag to be thrown, and handing Matthews his first win. Andy Moore battled with Adrian Jasso for much of the race with Moore prevailing to take second place. Kevin Winter caught and passed Jasso for the final podium spot.

The REV’IT! Moriwaki MD250H powered by HONDA race started with Nick McFadden on the pole. He would win flag to flag over second place finisher Peter Lenz. Most of the normal grid was noticeably absent as they head to the Red Bull Indianapolis GP next weekend.

The Rising Sun Cycle / GPTech Moto3 race saw a great battle with Peter Lenz, Nick McFadden and Michael Caravatta. The trio swapped positions several times per lap. McFadden rode his ‘Hot rod’ Moriwaki and beat out Caravatta on his Honda RS125 for the win while Lenz settled for third on his stock Moriwaki. Gerry Signorelli fought with 14-year-old Mackenzie Ancien for fourth until Signorelli crashed with one lap to go in the infamous turn 9. Shellie Matthews came home in fifth.

The USGPRU would like to thank the whole crew at OMRRA for hosting another fine event.
